Conducting primary research
'Conducting primary research
- Primary research involves gathering information firsthand through methods such as visits, interviews or questionnaires.
- When approaching participants, include who you are, what the project is about, why you are doing the research, what will be involved and what is happening to the information (Alderson, 1995, cited in Arksey and Knight, 1999, p. 69).
- Try piloting questions to avoid being confusing, leading or wordy.'
For my research I would like to ask professionals in the industry about their reasons and choices of distribution;
for example I would like to ask the producer of the Mark Ronson and King Princess music video ' Pieces of us' and their choice to only distribute it on Instagram story's only, instead of traditionally on MTV.
I would also like to research into professionals who still distributes on cable/network, those who publish on streaming sites (such as Netflix, amazon Prime.) and self publishes who publish their work on YouTube.
For these questions, I will most likely email them, or possibly less formally send messages using social media if they are freelance and only accessible through this. Of course I will need to research into who is the producer ect in charge of what before I begin searching for details/ sending questions.
Other than producers and creators, I would also like to do some target audience research; to find out preferred methods of watching (aka t.v, mobile apps, computers- Netflix/broadcast, YouTube, Instagram ect.)
what ages are using what, what people use to watch certain genres. etc..For this I would like to do a QUESTIONAIRE using internet sources, and perhaps maybe spend one day asking the public- so that I am not biased against those who may not have internet access or are familiar with it. such as older generations.
