For the internet
For internet;
'content consumers now spend huge parts of their entertainment time on their tablets, smartphones and laptops. the internet is the new hub provider for content and some showrunners are chasing the broadband route as the delivery medium of choice' (Bennett, 2014, p.215).
'What the internet is capable of providing is growing, what TV is capable of holding onto is shrinking' (Bennett, 2014, p.217).
"We can do it in the way the consumer wants it, get it directly to them, and they can help us fund it." -Jane Espenson(Bennett, 2014, p.218).
'the line between creator and viewer disappears' (Bennett, 2014, p.218).
YOUTUBE TV:
The good:
The bad:
FB WATCH:
Facebook Watch launched in 2018 (Graham, 2019).
Has episodic and non-episodic content (Shukla, 2018)
“Brand Collabs Manager,” (Graham, 2019).
Although Facebook watch creators get free distribution and earn money, soon facebook will be taking 30% of their earnings (Graham, 2019).
Facebook as a social media platform has been decreasing its popularity; since 2015 it has gone down by 19% (Shukla, 2018).
Social media overall:
The Good:
Online video content is attracting tv advertisers to promote there instead (Shukla, 2018)
'These days, anyone with a smartphone can shoot a video and put it online, but with the price of cinematic quality cameras falling tenfold, even high-quality production is not out of the reach of dedicated hobbyists. This is enabling an entirely new ecosystem of players who can produce, distribute and compete for advertising and subscription dollars' (Satell, 2013).
'YouTube: Probably the most pervasive new platform is YouTube, which, although it became famous for cat videos and other pranks, is evolving into a surprisingly effective distribution channel for high-quality video content'(Satell, 2013).
- The internet is a low cost for producers, easily accessible for both producers and audiences (Musburger and Kindem, 2009, p.6).
- It's easier to measure the internet 'Hits' than tv ratings (Musburger and Kindem, 2009, p.3).
-'The internet now and in the future will hold a major position in the distribution of all forms of media content, whether professionally created or from the cameras, microphones, computers, and minds of amateurs' (Musburger and Kindem, 2009, p.9).

Has episodic and non-episodic content (Shukla, 2018)
“Brand Collabs Manager,” (Graham, 2019).
- Facebook watch has been created to drive the discussion to churn out more views (Levenson, 2019).
-Has some network content, original content (Levenson, 2019).
-Facebook Watch plans to make 12 million Us dollars by 2022 (Levenson, 2019).
-views are 'social-driven'; the more views increases the income for facebook(Levenson, 2019).
The good:
Facebook relies on advertisers for their creators to make money.
This has been made easier for advertisers and content creators by letting creators make accessible portfolios (Castillo, 2018).
Facebook is trying to help everyone from beginners to professionals with using facebook watch as a platform to distribute videos (Castillo, 2018).
Fb W also gives the creator more control over the content, unlike on-demand streaming sites and traditional broadcasted tv (Castillo, 2018).
On the Facebook watch, creators and media companies can get direct payments from facebook users, using 'Fan subscriptions' which gives them access to exclusive content (Graham, 2019).
The bad:
Youtube is still the most successful, with some of its creators apparently earning a 'millions of dollars every month' unlike Instagram's and facebooks new competition 'IGTV' and 'Facebook watch', struggling to compete against YouTubes success (Graham, 2019).Although Facebook watch creators get free distribution and earn money, soon facebook will be taking 30% of their earnings (Graham, 2019).
Facebook as a social media platform has been decreasing its popularity; since 2015 it has gone down by 19% (Shukla, 2018).
Social media overall:
The Good:
video streaming on phones is continuously on the rise (Shukla, 2018)
Online video content is attracting tv advertisers to promote there instead (Shukla, 2018)
'YouTube: Probably the most pervasive new platform is YouTube, which, although it became famous for cat videos and other pranks, is evolving into a surprisingly effective distribution channel for high-quality video content'(Satell, 2013).
'YouTube has also become a fertile platform for marketers, who can create their own channels and networks to deliver content to their consumers, like how-to videos from Home Depot or beauty secrets from L’Oreal’s Destination Beautychannel or cool surfing videos from apparel maker Quicksilver' (Satell, 2013).

-'The internet now and in the future will hold a major position in the distribution of all forms of media content, whether professionally created or from the cameras, microphones, computers, and minds of amateurs' (Musburger and Kindem, 2009, p.9).
There are no restrictions to you self distributing, distributing what you want, when you want, to social media such as facebook or youtube or blogger (Brown and Duthie, 2016, p. 29).
-'Online networks now create programming that is as high quality as what we have seen in the past on networks'(Owens, 2016, p.2).
'"In the next decade, 75% of all channels will be born on the internet. The web is poised to become the premium channel for entertainment distribution within the next decade." - Robert Kyad, head of global partnerships, youtube'(Owens, 2016,p.1).
'Program creators also have the ability to distribute anything they create due to online channels and portals at no cost' (Owens, 2016, p.9).
'Online distribution allows programming to be distributed worldwide. This has opened up access to people and markets that were unreachable in the past' (Owens, 2016, p.393).
Some sites are free to producers and audiences (Owens, 2016, p.393).
Some websites charge a fee to view the video, splitting the fees between the site and producers (Owens, 2016, p.394).
'[Social media is] used by millions around the world'(Owens, 2016, p.394).
-'"Now for the first time, producers, directors have a chance to reach their audience directly"-Peter Broaderick'(Owens, 2016, p.391).
Good for reaching certain target audience demographics, but only when you pay distribution -paying for advertising (H, 2019).
You are able to promote your video, yourself on multiple social media platforms (H, 2019).
You can use 'owed distribution' to exhibit your work (H, 2019).
There is flexibility with payment and the amount of views you desire. Which could be much better for the independent (H, 2019).
There is a lot of choice of distribution channels to choose from (H, 2019).
When it comes to online streaming, there is a much larger portion, (66%) of the population who seeming prefers to stream online rather than apps or traditional tv networks (Yanev, 2019).
65% of U.S homes have 'internet-connected device or smart tv'
THE BAD:
Most websites cost the producer to distribute. Despite the audience getting to watch for free, there is a high likely ness they will be interrupted by adverts. Which can wreck the viewing experience, making it bad for both producers and consumers (H, 2019).
Most of your revenue will be from adds (H, 2019).
You will have to fund your own productions if you wish to do distribution methods such as owned distribution (Brown and Duthie, 2016, p.29).
The potential for copyrighting and pirating becomes easier when productions are distributed online (Kennemer and Cohen, 2019).
It relies on a good internet connection, to be able to watch online video content (Kennemer and Cohen, 2019).
